Punchline, created by writer Bill Williams and artist Matthew Weldon, debuted in 2018 from Antarctic Press. The series follows Mel, a battle-scarred Daughter of Hercules who is wounded, stripped of her powers, and forced into retirement. She passes the mantle to Jessie, a determined teenager who becomes the superhero Versema, protector of Seaholm. With no where else to go Mel stays on as her sharp-tongued, WWII-era mentor.
The comic mixes action, humor, and mentor-protégé friction as Versema learns to fight crime with Herculean strength.
The first issue of Punchline was Antarctic Press’s 2019 Free Comic Book Day title and has continued as an ongoing creator-owned series with two collected editions- Blood Sisters and Super Frenemies.
